Nithya Raman was endorsed by the DSA-LA after being required to explicitly pledge to participate in the DSA-LA (Socialists In Office) program and to run as a democratic socialist. (3) Raman will continue to Co-Govern with the DSA-LA, whose policy demands are replicated from their websites on the following pages. (4)
DSA Co-Governance Policy Demands
“Repeal L.A. Municipal code 41.18(d) and (e)”. This would allow homeless encampments within 500 feet of schools, daycares and parks. [5]
Defund the Police
Nithya Raman has complied with this DSA Policy Demand by voting against hiring police officers, voting against budgets that fund police officers, and by literally tweeting “Defund the police.”
Decriminalize Drug Use and
Fund Unlimited Drug Injection Sites.
Raman Supported Senate Bill 57 to allow “unlimited” drug injection
sites in Los Angeles. [6]
From Governor Newsom SB57 Veto Message: [7]
“The unlimited number of safe injection sites that this bill would authorize — facilities which could exist well into the later part of this decade — could induce a world of unintended consequences. Worsening drug consumption challenges in these areas is not a risk we can take.”
